This book was a recommended read, I found “After-hour Banking” captivating. The author Max Miller captured suspense and anticipation throughout the book. I started reading and couldn’t stop. Just as “After-hour Banking” was a recommend to me, I will surely pass it on to others. Elizabeth the main character is dealing with life in its purest form as a result of unexpected events. What happens next is what makes “After-Hour Banking” an excellent read.

One Response to After Hour Banking

  1. Kat Murphy says:

As a teenager my mother used to tell me how much she loved visiting Savannah, Georgia and how gorgeous the magnolia trees were there. I’ve never had a chance to visit myself, but after reading Max W. Miller’s novelette After Hour Banking I found myself curious once again about the small city on Georgia’s eastern coast. Yet it’s more than Georgian magnolia trees that draws the reader into the world of Max’s main character Elizabeth.
It is immediately clear that Elizabeth Smart is a character who displays both human strengths and weaknesses, yet possessess a clear voice of her own. A professional woman who embodies the heart of a starry-eyed girl, she is a hard worker attempting to make a better life for herself and her family. Yet through her dedication the reader begins to see weaknesses and quirks that make her a strong and believable character. As my good friend Kate Hedley once said—and I’m paraphrasing here—the more weaknesses a character has, the easier it is for readers to identify with and enjoy them on a personal level.
With each page of the story, Max W. Miller continues to unfold more about Elizabeth’s persona and the battles within the darker corners of her mind. It is where we see Elizabeth’s mind finally snap—our heroine willing to end all the hard work she’s accomplished in her life to follow a man named Deven to the other side of the grave. It is in this relationship where the reader sees beyond the conflict within the young woman and straight to her heart. She has found everything she ever wanted, only to have it violently stripped away from her. The destruction leaves our heroine shattered and numb, willing to forego all that she has acquired for a taste of what the love of her life now possesses.
Max W. Miller’s unique voice continues to shine throughout this short tale which grants readers a window into the life of Elizabeth Smart. Her voice is strong, charismatic and definitive in bringing forth the nature and reality of the characters situated around the RP&B Bank. And just when you think you have everything figured out, this stellar author drops a final twist into the story that shatters the veil of reality in this tale. I eagerly await the next story from the shelves of Max W. Miller’s repetoire.
